The Art Russe gift chess case from Chateau La Grace Dieu des Prieurs was designed by Andrey Filatov, owner of the winery and president of the Russian Chess Federation. According to Filatov, the concept of the unique packaging combined respect for the ancient intellectual game, passion for great wine and great Russian art. An elegant wooden box with a checkerboard lid for six bottles of the famous wine from Saint-Emilion with paintings by Russian artists on the labels is completed with a set of hand-made chess pieces on an individual project. Andrey Filatov is a fan of the undefeated World Champion Alexander Alekhine. The style of chess in the 20s of the 20th century inspired him to create a chessboard with fields of red and cream. In the manufacture of the case, wood, valchromat (valchromat) and leather, high-quality natural materials were used. One of the features of the packaging of Art Russe – creating a product in the luxury niche that would get a second life after opening bottles of wine. So, thanks to its functionality and elegant design, the “Wine and Chess” case is preserved as an independent design object and a convenient chess set for playing. This is not the first design award by Andrey Filatov and the Chateau La Grace Dieu des Prieurs team. In 2021 magnum cuvée Elena became the winner of the largest international design competition Red Dot Award (Essen, Germany) in the nomination “Industrial design”, in the category “Beverage packaging”.
