The number of foreign trips of Russians increased by almost 25%

The number of foreign trips of Russians grew by almost 25% in the first half of 2022 compared to the same period in 2021.

As ATOR reports with reference to the statistics of the FSB Border Guard Service, from January to June 2022, Russians made 8,453,846 trips abroad. This figure was 24.55% higher than in January-June 2021. It is clarified that the main share of the increase occurs in the winter months of the first quarter of 2022, and not in spring and summer. Compared to 2021, in the first quarter of this year, the increase was 46.7%, and in the second – 10.9%. However, compared to pre-Covid times, the outbound flow decreased by 60.1%.

The increase of almost 40% consists of trips to Turkey, Egypt and the UAE. Almost 60% of the increase is accounted for by the group of post-Soviet countries and the border countries of the Baltic region: Armenia, Georgia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and Finland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania.

In the TOP-10 countries of the far abroad, which Russians chose to travel in the first half of 2022, included the following countries:

  • Turkey (1,393,604 trips);
  • UAE (466,397);
  • Egypt (429,265);
  • Dominican Republic (92,036);
  • Maldives (53,042);
  • Israel (44,461);
  • Serbia (41,120);
  • Hungary (36,438);
  • Cuba (35,687);
  • Qatar (31,276).

The top 10 post-Soviet countries were as follows:

  • Abkhazia (1,943,953);
  • Kazakhstan (773,232);
  • Ukraine (370,728);
  • Armenia (313,946);
  • Georgia (201,628);
  • < li> Kyrgyzstan (170,925);

  • South Ossetia (151,678);
  • Uzbekistan (149,557);
  • Tajikistan (126,528);
  • Azerbaijan (120,981).

The group of far-abroad countries that have a significant land border with Russia includes 7 states. The statistics for trips from Russia looks like this:

  • Finland (301,710);
  • Estonia (296,978);
  • Lithuania (113,817);
  • Latvia (49,648);
  • Poland (58,983);
  • China (76,519);
  • Mongolia (37,448 ).

It is also reported that in the first half of 2022, a little more than one third of the outbound flow (35.1% of Russian trips abroad) is predominantly not related to tourism, almost two thirds (64, 9%) are more related to tourism.
