What to see in Lviv in the first place

1. Rynok Square

If you don't know where to go in Lviv, head to this medieval square. Literally every building located here is an architectural and cultural monument. In previous years, the territory served as a bazaar for foreign and Ukrainian merchants. Folk festivals were organized here and the most responsible decisions were made. 2. City Hall

The date of construction of the current building of the City Hall (4th in a row) is 1835. The entrance to it is guarded by stone statues of two lions, which Ukrainians call the burgomaster and the mayor. Guests are offered, among other things, a visit to the high tower and its observation platform.
3. Svobody Avenue

4. Potocki Palace

A beautiful building in the style of classicism, you should definitely make a trip to it. The palace was built to receive high-ranking foreigners. Today the castle is open to tourists. The interior decoration is represented by stucco decoration, marble and gilded decorations. The complex includes a chapel, which houses the miraculous icon of the Mother of God.
5. Kornyakt's Palace

Like many other places of interest in Ukraine, this one has a long history. It was built in the 16th century at the direction of a wealthy Greek merchant Kornyakt. In addition to the castle itself, which now houses a museum, you can explore the surrounding area – a courtyard in the style of a Florentine patio.

6. House of Scientists

Date of construction – 19th century. The building is made in the style of castle architecture. A hundred years ago it housed a casino. Later, the house was handed over to scientists. Now it is also the property of an educational institution. One of the reasons for the popularity of this attraction is that masquerade balls are often held here.
7. Opera House

8. St. George's Cathedral

When listing the main sights of Lviv, one should not forget about this baroque Greek Catholic cathedral of 1744-70. There are many structures on the square of the temple: the chambers of the Greek Catholic metropolitan, gazebos, bell towers, etc. The complex also includes the garden of St. Yura. The main building is decorated with sculptural compositions.
9. Church of St. John the Baptist

One of the oldest buildings in the city, built in the 13th century. Over its long history, it has been restored, rebuilt and almost completely destroyed by fires, wars and other disasters. The last reconstruction was carried out in the 19th century. Antique religious and everyday examples are stored inside the church.
10. Church of Saints Olga and Elizabeth

Temple of the 20th century, built in neo-gothic style. The first name was given to the church by Elizaveta of Bavaria (the object received its current name only in 1991). 11. Latin Cathedral

Your trip to Lviv would not be complete without a visit to this grandiose Catholic cathedral with a 7-meter stone tower ending in a black dome. The dimensions of the building are very impressive – the same as the interior decoration with beam columns, monks and frescoes. Until the 18th century, burials were carried out on the territory of the church. In memory of the people buried in the chapels of the Latin Cathedral, there are sculptures and memorial plaques.
12. Armenian Cathedral

The cathedral was built over 6 centuries ago, rebuilt more than once and supplemented with new buildings. At the moment, this is a whole architectural complex, to which excursions are organized in Lviv. Visitors are invited to view the main building, as well as climb the bell tower.
13. Dominican Monastery and Cathedral

The dome of the cathedral is visible from afar. In the 1970s, the building housed the Museum of History and Religion. However, now both buildings have passed into the possession of the church. Guests can view both the monastery and the cathedral from the inside, as well as visit the services, led to the sounds of the organ, and the local bell tower.

14. Bernardine Church and Monastery

15. Church of the Jesuits

A 17th century building designed by an Italian architect. This is one of the first Baroque churches to appear in the city. In the 18-19 centuries, meetings of the Lviv Parliament were held in the temple. In 2011, a large-scale restoration of the church began.
16. Boim Chapel

The beautiful 17th-century extension is included in all Lviv's Best Sights lists. The walls of the baroque building are covered with sculptural paintings showing biblical scenes. The height of the three-storey chapel is a little less than 15 meters.
17. Railway station

The first station was opened in 1861 by order of the Austrian authorities. In the 20th century, it could no longer cope with the increased passenger traffic, and was replaced by the current complex with spacious waiting rooms of different levels of comfort, utility rooms, a post office, a cafe and a canteen.
18. Lviv Beer Museum

Even the best hotels in Lviv cannot boast as many guests as this museum, which began its work in 2005. The attraction area exceeds 600 square meters. The expositions include approximately three hundred samples: bottles, labels, ancient barrels of various sizes and colors. Visitors can watch how the beer is brewed and learn the secrets of brewing. There is also a tasting room on site. You can buy the beers you like.

The main one for the opening of the museum was the pharmacy, which is still operating to this day. 20. Shevchenko Guy

24. Prison on Lontskogo

The building is made in the Neo-Renaissance style. Created for the needs of the gendarmerie of Austria-Hungary. In the time of the USSR, there was a division of the NKVD here, then – the department of the Gestapo, later – an isolation ward and a department of the Ukrainian Ministry of Internal Affairs. The building was converted into a museum at the direction of the SBU ten years ago. The exhibits of the exhibitions give a visual representation of the various periods of the occupation of Western Ukraine and their sad events.
25. City Arsenal

In previous years, the building of the arsenal housed a prison, as well as a room for the Lviv executioner. Nearby there was a shop for casting cannons. The collections of the modern museum contain numerous strange weapons. Samples were brought not only from all over the country, but also from more than 30 countries of the Earth.

Remains of a 19th century defensive structure built by order of the Austrian government. At one time, the “owners” of the citadel were Polish, Soviet and Russian armies. One of the fortification towers is in excellent condition (thanks to a large-scale reconstruction): inside it are rooms of a 5-star hotel with luxurious palace-style interiors.
27. Powder Tower

In the 16th century, the attraction, with powerful stone walls 2.5 meters thick, was an important part of the Lviv defensive zone. She was supposed to protect the approaches to the city from the north. There were supplies of provisions, gunpowder and ammunition in case of a siege of Lvov. The construction is officially recognized as an important architectural and military-historical monument in the Renaissance style. The tower was last restored in the 20th century.
28. High Castle Park

Thanks to its favorable location and several observation platforms, this park complex of the mid-19th century is a huge success not only among travelers, but also among the residents of the city. It is located in the central part of Lviv and occupies over 36 hectares. From the observation platforms you can admire the surroundings, as well as take great photos. Before, there was a defensive fortress of D. Galitsky on this territory. She protected the townspeople from the Mongol-Tatar yoke. Only the ruins of the fortress have survived to this day. High Castle Park has two levels: lower and upper. On the lower terrace, you can look at the historical signs created in memory of the Polish king John the Third and the ataman of the Cossacks Krivonos, as well as wonderful sculptures of stone lions. The upper level is an artificial mound, on which the Lviv TV center and TV tower are located, over 190 meters high.

29. Stryisky Park

The park complex has been located in the south of Lviv on the square of the former Stryisky cemetery since the 19th century. Initially, there were about 40,000 trees on the territory, there were well-groomed alleys and flower beds, paved paths. In the era of the USSR, the boundaries of the park were significantly expanded (due to neighboring wastelands). Now the complex is also carefully monitored, so walking here can give you a lot of pleasure.
30. Lychakiv Cemetery

A non-standard architectural landmark, whose history began over 200 years ago, is considered one of the greatest European necropolises. The territory was used for the burial of famous cultural figures, famous artists, politicians and just wealthy citizens. The monuments and tombstones present here were made by famous sculptors and architects. In recent years, the object is intended for tourists to see, and functions as a museum-reserve.
