For the period January-August 2023, Russia took second place in terms of incoming tourist flows to Sri Lanka after India.
“Russia is one of the key tourism markets for Sri Lanka from 2018 to the current period. Approximately 450 thousand Russian tourists visited Sri Lanka, and from January to August 2023 there were already approximately 130 thousand people. This is the second highest number of visitors to Sri Lanka this year after India,” Interfax quotes Sasika Jayaweera, Deputy Director of the Sri Lanka Tourism Bureau in Moscow.
It is clarified that for the period January-August 2022, the tourist flow from Russia to Sri Lanka amounted to 49.7 thousand people.
Sasika Jayavira emphasized that Russians prefer beach holidays. From November to April is the high season for the southern coast, from May to October you can visit the eastern part of Sri Lanka.
