Luggage belts lined with forgotten bags and suitcases
Lost suitcases block Munich airport
At Munich International Airport. Franz Josef Strauss, thousands of suitcases have accumulated. Airlines have lost them due to the influx of passengers and flight delays due to bad weather.
Christmas holidays are the busiest time in German airports. Munich is one of the main aviation hubs of the country along with Frankfurt am Main. From December 23 to January 8, 1.3 million passengers and almost 11,000 flights to 150 destinations pass through Munich.
This influx, combined with bad weather, cancellations and flight delays, has led to chaos on the baggage belts. They are all literally filled with forgotten bags and suitcases. There is simply nowhere to put new ones.
In total, 340 flights have been canceled in Munich in recent days. Because of this, 15 thousand suitcases have accumulated at the airport. Most of them are from Lufthansa flights.
