Croatia joins the Schengen. What does this mean for tourists?

Recently, the EU Council officially approved Croatia's accession to the Schengen area from January 1.

For tourists, this means that any border checks between Croatia and other Schengen countries (Hungary, Slovenia) will be cancelled. For example, having arrived in Budapest, you can go from there to Croatian resorts by bus or car without any border control.

From March 26, passengers flying to Croatian cities from the Schengen countries will also no longer go through passport/border control at arrival airports. For example, when flying from Berlin to Zagreb, Russians with a Schengen visa will not need to re-go through control.

Also, Croatia will now issue Schengen visas with biometrics, which will be valid throughout Europe. Now the country issues only national visas to Russians. It is not yet clear whether they will continue to operate after January 1.
